Art Makes You Smart!  Studies show that kids who make art: perform better in school, are better problem solvers, learn to express their ideas and feelings, exercise their imaginations, and improve spelling, math skills, strategic thinking, and concentation.

Over the past 30 years I have taught students from age 5 to 95.
Private Session, by appointment
1 hour private $20
2 hours private $30
Workshops $20 /student/session

                   On-Site  Classroom Visits
As a fully credentialled K-8 teacher, I have developed an extensive art curriculum, that integrates art and mathematics.  The developmentally appropriate lessons feature the exploration of geometric art, as well as a visual literacy component, and traditional art lessons.

On-Site Teacher Workshops and In-Service Training:

Integrating art into the curricultm.  I have presented my curriculum to hundreds of enthusiatic teachers at state conferences, local workshops, and in-service trainings.

Art Makes You Smart Workshops:

“Art, Geometry and the Perfect Shape”
Using a compass and straightedge students create circle designs that reveal a wealth of geometry (triangles, hexagons, symmetry, etc.) We also look at the rich multicultural tradition of circle designs created over the past 3,000 years.

“The Art of Patterns, Tilings, and Tessellations”
Students work with pattern blocks, graph paper, and other tools to create designs that have symmetry, patterns, and tessellations.

“The Art of Literacy”
In this session, students will use the language of art to explore the art of language. Using the concept of letters (and numbers) as being visual symbols, we see how their shapes and patterns and their nature in language (words) can be manipulated much as shapes are manipulated in art.

Other "smART" Workshops:

"The Art of Lines and Shapes"
Students explore how to use straight lines and curved lines to create beautiful and unusual designs and will learn the proper use of tools (straightedges, french curves) and materials (pencils, crayons and markers).

"Symmetry and Patterns"
Symmetry and patterns are all around us. Learning how to see and understand patterns improves critical thinking by developing the ability to predict. Students create beautiful art with symmetry (drawing, counting, folding, cutting), and patterns (stripes, checkerboards, and beyond).

"The Color Wheel and Beyond"
Students use a compass, straightedge, and crayons to create the color wheel and explore the world of rainbow art with the pattern of the color wheel.

"Life Drawing"
Always a favorite with the kids, students learn proportions and develop the ability to draw what they see by sketching from the model.
